Kwick Tek Kayak Paddle 3 Section Aluminum
The plastic pieces that connect the three aluminum shaft pieces are very easily broken. My first outing at the beach I broke one of them. I replaced it with some PVC piping and duct tape but I could no longer take it apart. During my second outing to the beach nothing broke but there was... -
Useless
The paddle's parts are held together by large plastic O-rings. The paddle fell apart the first time I used it on completely calm water. Every few minutes I had to spend several minutes refastening the parts. The paddle's head fell off twice. I bought two that both suffered the same problem so...

Kayaks draw anglers to their quarry; sometimes quarry pulls back
One of my first columns after joining The Oregonian in 1981 erupted from my fingers after watching a spectacle unfold beneath the Sellwood Bridge during spring chinook season.
At about 11 a.m. on a weekday, a man in a white shirt and tie (his lunch break, he said later) got out of his car, parked on the old ferry ramp on the east end of the bridge. He lifted a small yellow kayak off the roof and, within a few minutes, launched himself into the river with a fishing rod and a net.
Sellwood fleet regulars knew him as "the bass plug," and, sure enough, about 20 minutes later he netted a salmon and made the paper.

Over the past year, I've seen -- or heard of -- kayaks used to catch trout, bass, halibut, Dungeness crabs, lingcod, rockfish, salmon, steelhead and sturgeon (I heard of one over-sized sturgeon that
Innova Helios 1 Inflatable Kayak | Inflatable Sea Kayaks
The award-winning Helios 1 has been improved this year with the following added features in the Helios II. The decks and the interior are now made with Lite-Pack fabric, which cuts 10% off the weight of the kayak and allows for a smaller folded package. Lite-Pack is also much nicer on bare skin and more comfortable to sit against.
For the first time Innova now has a single-seat version of the Helios. It incorporates the same fabrics and features as the Helios II, but the Helios I has a significant amount of room for gear storage under the extended fore and aft deck. Weighing only 24 pounds, the Helios I is a very credible pocket touring kayak.
Used for search and rescue by the Canadian Ranger Kayak Patrol on the west coast of Vancouver Island, the Helios is both versatile and rugged. A Helios won the predicted log section of the ‘97 San Juan Challenge, averaging 3 knots over the 40-mile course in winds gusting to 45 knots. Just recently, the Helios was chosen...
