Chollas: The lake was stocked last week with trout by the Department of Fish and Game. The Joe Bain Memorial Fishing Pier is a great place for kids to fish. Open daily to youngsters 15 and under. San Diego Fly Fishers sponsors a Lend-A-Rod program on Sundays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and it includes free bait and tackle and fishing tips. Good perimeter hiking trail, shady spots for picnicking.
Corona Lake: Very good trout fishing here. Crissa Gayagas and Don Bragg, both of Lake Elsinore, landed 20 rainbows totaling 50 pounds. Roger and Luisa Collum, both of Corona, landed 20 trout totaling 45 pounds. The official trout opener isn’t until Nov. 18 when the lake will receive some of the biggest trout and largest stocks ever delivered to the I-15 fishery. Where to launch to fish just south of Newport Harbor - Kayak ...
If you time your launch w/the tides and are used to pacing yourself, try the Coast Guard Beach. You need wheels and need to get there early, limited street parking due to construction. But you have a restroom, outside shower to wash off the sand, and your vehicle will be parked. The paddle is probably less than 200 yards more than Balboa. You will appreciate the amenities when you land. Also saves 20 minutes of driving on Balboa Peninsula.
