Vero Beach police make arrest in kayaks theft
VERO BEACH — Police arrested a Greenacres man as part of the investigation into several kayaks stolen last month from a city marina.
Kenneth N. Sampson, 56, was charged with dealing in stolen property Friday and posted $7,500 bond at the Indian River County Jail . The case remains under investigation.
Police said about 10 p.m. Sept. 16, two Vero Beach men went to the Vero Beach Marina in the 3600 block of Rio Vista and took 17 kayaks. Security cables were cut on the kayaks, which belonged to 14 owners, according to the affidavit.
A couple of tips were given to detectives, including one from a person who told police he saw several kayaks being transferred from one trailer to another about 9 a.m. Sept. 17 in a supermarket parking lot in the 4300 block of Oslo Road. Another tip led detectives to a 19-year-old Indian River County resident, who was interviewed Thursday.
The man interviewed said he stole the kayaks to sell them to Sampson, who had advertised on Craig's List that he would pay cash for the vessels, according to the affidavit. The deal was done for $1,400 for 14 kayaks, he told detectives. Police linked three of the stolen kayaks to a sale page by Sampson on Craig's List, the affidavit states.

The Kayak had a hole on it’s side when arrived and I found that out by test-inflating it. I had to wrap it up and return it. It was a real hassle to go through all that. But I still hope the replacement would be OK, based on the positive reviews I have read. A real initial disappointment after ordering so many items from Amazon.
I and my friend tried Eagle 330 Kayak on grade 2 whitewater. It is quite stable, we did not managed to over turn it so far. Material is stronger than it is seems to be at a first glance. Front seat shall be fixed from both sides by the rope, otehrwise one travel with it within the boat and is difficult to attache force during the paddling. I regret not to choose the upgrade package with more comfortable seats. Otherwise it is great kayak worth money spent.
