Christie’s on my mind this week, because I worry he could be putting some of those destinations out of reach.

Destinations like Island Beach State Park, Liberty State Park and Wharton State Forest are the first three under a new plan to operate them through partnerships with private companies.

In part, under the plan, companies will be invited to bid to lease facilities and run concessions. Contracts could include that companies pay a percentage of concession proceeds to the state, according to a spokesman. Today, about 21 percent of the parks’ operations already are funded that way. The goal is 38 percent by 2015.

Play golf or go on an excursion to spot humpback whales playing just off Maui’s coast. On other days, you can simply take the North Maui Hana Highway for a leisurely drive along one of the world’s most famous coastlines. Not that the museums, good restaurants and interesting shops are to be ignored. With all these things to do or see, Maui rentals are a natural choice for a convenient and relaxing holiday.
