For the price cannot beat this paddle
For the reviewers who complained about the bent (narrow) portion of the paddle handle it is supposed to be this way like many other paddles. Overall, for a intermediate-beginner paddle you cannot beat this one for value/performance. I have used this paddle on numerous occasions and cannot wait... -
Great paddle for beginner to intermediate kayakers
I was looking for something to get out and get started with, but wasn't happy with the $30 paddles in sporting goods stores. They were ugly, didn't look efficient, and seemed heavier than these. Anything in this class was $80+ in store, so I came to Amazon and glad I did. This is a great paddle...

Scheibe, an artist and coffee-shop owner from Ely, Minn., started her journey at the head of the Mississippi in 2004 to mark her 50th birthday. She remembered going to the headwaters of the Mississippi as a child and wondering how such a small stream could feed the large river, so she decided to paddle from its starting point at Lake Itasca to Red Wing, Minn., and see the river grow wider.
Along the way, she stopped in towns and cities along the Mississippi and sent news releases to local papers and salons, encouraging other women to meet with her.
“When I got to Red Wing, I found it difficult to get out of the water,” Scheibe said. “I kept staring down the river, thinking there’s a lot more river down there, and many more stories to discover.”
In 2007, she started the second leg of her journey, traveling from Red Wing to St. Louis. This year, she started in St. Louis, arriving in Grand Isle on Friday.
She has written a book of stories from the women’s gatherings held in conjunction with each leg of the trip. Scheibe expects the third book to come out in November 2013.
