The owners of the seven-acre marina, once the city's largest dry storage facility for boats, gave the rowing foundation more breathing room by extending the deadline on a purchase option from March 31 to July 31.
Meanwhile, the Ohio office of the Trust for Public Land , a national land conservation organization based in San Francisco, is committed to making sure the deal goes through.
Bill Carroll, director of the trust's Ohio office, said Tuesday that the organization "will fill the gap, once the financing is firmed up."
The rowing foundation wants to move from its cramped current home on Scranton Road Peninsula, which it has rented for a decade, to the more spacious, permanent and publicly accessible facility one bend of the river to the north, or downstream.
Advocates call the project Rivergate Park.
"I think our move is imminent," said Theresa Gang, director of the rowing foundation. "We need to have a permanent home for rowing and for the public to enjoy river access. We can't wait."
