Southern York County was the hardest-hit area in the state, Bohlmann said. Flooding shut down 92 roads at the height of the storm; on Tuesday, 40 were still closed. Power was knocked out to about 800 homes — far less than the 80,000 homes that lost power during the storm at the end of February.
Indeed, Fire Chief George Gorman said the town escaped the devastation of that earlier storm because weak trees were already knocked down. The damage inflicted by the storm that started Sunday and lasted into Monday was limited to flooded basements and roads, he said.
A large pothole opened up on Route 236 near Cumberland Farms Sunday; crews from the state Department of Transportation had it filled up by Monday, Bohlmann said. Tire-flattening potholes also pocked sections of Witchtrot Road and York Woods Road.
Firefighters responded to a host of flooded basements, with some volunteering to pump the water out at no cost to the town, Gorman said.
